Each year the World Health Organisation (WHO) holds World Health Day. This year (on April 7), the spotlight falls on depression, which affects some 350 million people worldwide.
Did you know that 1 in 5 women and 1 in 8 men will experience some level of depression? The most recent comprehensive statistics on depression in Australia are from 2008: the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing In Australia.
However, only 35 percent of Australians with anxiety and depression access treatment (this figure is just 25 percent for men). Depression can happen to anyone, and the first step in addressing it is to talk to someone about your feelings, be that a friend, relative, your partner, or your doctor.
