BSc(Hons) Lond, ARCS, MBBS(Hons) Syd.

Dr Rosemary Aldous is a Medical graduate from the University of Sydney with initial medical training at RGH Concord. Her initial degree was in Zoology from Imperial College, London with subsequent Scientific research work in the United Kingdom, Kenya and Australia.

Dr Aldous has been a General Practitioner since 1989 with interests in General medicine, Travel medicine, Women’s health, Health promotion and Preventative medicine. Dr Aldous has been an established GP in Sydney CBD for many years and continues with a passion for quality medical care. She has joined OCNL St Medical Centre with its focus on the highest standard of Medical care and Customer service, qualities which are at the core of excellent Medicine.

Dr James Chesworth

M.B., B.S. (University of Sydney)

Dr James Chesworth is a general practitioner with a special interest in men’s health and dermatology.

He graduated from medicine at the University of Sydney in 1981 and did his residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital before working as a Resident Medical Officer at Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital. He worked as a general practitioner in private practice in Campbelltown for 12 years before moving to Gateway Medical in 1998 (now O’Connell St Medical Centre).

Dr Gemma Kim

M.B.,B.S., DRANZCOG, DCH, FRACGP

Dr Gemma Kim graduated from medicine at Sydney University in 1997. After graduation she completed an internship and residency at Westmead Hospital, where she acquired her Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She went on to complete her GP fellowship training in Gosford, Raymond Terrace and Penrith.

In 2002 Dr Kim started work at Abbotsford general practice where she completed the Diploma of Child Health (Westmead Hospital). In 2013 she joined Gateway Quayside Medical Centre, which is now O’Connell St Medical Centre.

Her special interests include women’s health and general practice. She is experienced in doing minor skin procedures such as the excision of skin lesions. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Kim is also registered with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital (Manly Hospital) for Antenatal shared care.

Dr Simon Kerr

MBChB, MRCGP, FRACGP

Simon is a dynamic doctor who does things differently. Bringing the best that the UK had to offer, his approach to medicine is as refreshing as a Southerly Buster on a beautiful, sunny Sydney afternoon. He is focused on quality patient care and delivering a fantastic patient experience.

Simon is passionate about general practice and also has specialist interests in Men's Health, Women's Health, Cardiology, Sports Medicine, Dermatology and performing minor surgical procedures, including Mirena and Implanon insertion and removal. He also has links with Royal North shore private hospital where he works as an assistant surgeon with the vascular surgery team.

He regularly works within the WorkCover scheme.

Dr Kerr is accepting new patients, including GP to GP referrals, and looks forward to meeting and caring for you soon.

Dr Polly Chan

Dr Polly Chan graduated from medicine in 1997 from the University of Sydney and went on to train as an undergraduate intern at Westmead Hospital where she gained her residency and Diploma of Child Health.

In 2004 Dr Chan moved to the United Kingdom for further training, completing a Diploma of Dermatology at Cardiff University, before working as a staff grade doctor in dermatology at the Elizabeth Hospital WHS trust.

After returning to Australia in 2007, Dr Chan worked at Gateway Quayside Medical Centre for seven years before moving to O’Connell St Medical Centre. Her special medical interests are dermatology, women’s health and antenatal care.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. In addition to her work and family life (she has two girls), Dr Chan enjoys travelling.

Ryan Welsh

Physiotherapist - Master of Physiotherapy

Ryan graduated from a Masters of Physiotherapy degree in 2008 following completion of a Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Management.

He has worked in private practice for seven years, in conjunction with physiotherapy work within the hospital sector and extensive work for sporting teams in both Rugby Union and Basketball. This varied physiotherapy experience supplemented by a background in exercise physiology has enabled him to develop highly proficient skills in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal and sports injuries.

Special interest areas include the treatment of overuse sporting injuries, longstanding pelvic and groin pain, recurrent hamstring strains, post-operative rehabilitation, and the management of spinal disorders. Ryan’s treatment philosophy is based on sound patient education, skilled manual therapy, and rehabilitative exercise prescription aimed to minimise future recurrence of pain and disability.

Ryan additionally teaches clinical Pilates, is a strength and conditioning specialist, and has a personal history in representative Rugby League, Touch Football, and Athletics.

Helen Gibson

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist - M.App.Sc (Manip. Physio)

Helen graduated from physiotherapy at Queensland University in 1989 and worked within the public health system for 4 years.

Following her interests in musculoskeletal medicine, she completed a Masters of Applied Science in Phsyiotherapy at Sydney University in 1994, focusing on the biomechanics and treatment of the lumbar and cervical spines. Helen has worked in Sydney CBD private practice for over 25 years (including Quaytherapy). Helen uses her skills in mobilisation, manipulation, massage and exercise prescription to help clients return to pre-injury health.

Helen has competed and trained in various sports herself , including 1/2 marathons, triathlons, ocean swimmming and world masters swimming. She has also raised two boys to adulthood through years of representative athletics and rugby.

Her knowledge of sport and competing helps her manage any of your sports injury needs.

Jeremy Bastow

Psychologist

Jeremy has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults within a variety of settings. He has experience completing short term and long term therapy working within the following conceptual frameworks and counseling spaces; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Vocational/Transitional Counseling, Coaching, EAP and Critical Debriefing. Extensive experience working with ADF and corporate clientele with experience across a wide range of conditions.

He works within an integrative biopsychosocial framework in a positive psychology framework to achieve collaborative and person centred outcomes. Currently studying a master's program in coaching psychology to assist in performance enhancement, goal setting, change management and executive supports for individuals. Has registration to complete work under Medicare and Workcover.

Pap Smear Clinic

All women between the ages of 18-70 should have a Pap test (cervical screening) every two years even if they have had the cervical cancer vaccine. A Pap test is a quick and simple way to check for changes to the cells in the cervix (90% of women who have cervical cancer either haven’t had a Pap test or not had a regular Pap test).

O’Connell St Medical Centre offers a Pap smear clinic Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm. Patients can see our female GPs until 2pm each day or, for other times, visit any GP currently on call.

Please note: Pap tests require a longer consultation – let reception know at the time of booking.

Antenatal, Post Natal & Baby Health

When you are pregnant it is important to take good care of your own health and see your doctor regularly so you can ensure the best health for you and your developing baby. Chronic Disease Management

Chronic disease management plans are used in the care of chronic and complex medical conditions including asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke and musculoskeletal conditions. Smoking – We are committed to preventative medicine and health promotion, and can assist you with a variety of quit-smoking strategies. We acknowledge the journey to smoke-free living is different for everyone, so talk to our doctors to devise the best plan to support a successful outcome for you.

Blood pressure – People can have high blood pressure without knowing it. If high blood pressure remains undetected over time, it can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Reducing blood pressure can lower these risks, and treatment does not always require medication. All adults should have their blood pressure checked annually – or more frequently if there is a history of high blood pressure.

Diabetes is a common disorder which often goes undetected while causing damage to your vision and vital organs. Ask your doctor about diabetes risks and testing – especially if there is a history of diabetes in your family.

Minor Surgical Procedures

Minor procedures can be done onsite at O’Connell St Medical Centre, avoiding the hassle of waiting in emergency rooms or hospitals. Minor procedures include the removal of skin tags, warts, and moles; suturing of superficial lacerations; and the removal of small cysts and growths. On-site Pathology

O’Connell St Medical Centre provides a pathology service onsite.

If you have had a blood test, you will most likely require a follow-up consultation so the doctor can discuss the results with you. This helps ensure you understand the test results and allows the doctor to provide clear instructions if there’s a change in the course of your treatment. In the interest of privacy, test results can only be given to the client themselves.

Pre-employment & Insurance Medicals

In today’s work culture, the use of employment medicals is more common than ever before. Some employers require staff to have a full medical prior to commencing work, to assess your capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the job. Employers will often have their own pro-forma checklist.

The team at O’Connell St Medical Centre carry out medicals for pre-employment and can provide medicals required for insurance purposes. Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is a procedure where extreme cold is applied to destroy diseased or damaged tissues and cells. Cryosurgery can be done on the skin to treat cancerous or pre-cancerous conditions.

Electro-cardiogram

An ECG is a medical test that can detect abnormal heart rhythms and conditions such as heart attacks, damaged or inflamed heart muscle, enlarged hearts, and congenital abnormalities. During an ECG, small sensor pads are attached to the chest, arms and legs. These sensors detect and transmit the heart’s electrical activity and records this for the doctor to assess. An ECG only takes a few minutes; it is a quick, painless, non-invasive procedure.
